Hey there! My name is Dexter. I’m a 24-year-old traveler originally from Houston, Texas. I’ve been consistently traveling since January 2015. Fast forward 2 years later, I am about to embark on the biggest trip of my life! Starting in Thailand and backpacking my way through Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, follow me along the way to my next dextination.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Where are you going?
The route is constantly changing and evolving in my head. As of right this moment in time, I am starting in Bangkok, Thailand. Then going to Chiang Mai and the famous Thai islands. Then I’ll have a quick stopover in Singapore and Bali on my way to Australia. Traveling the east coast of Australia, Cairns to Melbourne and hopping over to New Zealand! I booked a bus pass with the Kiwi Experience to see both the north and south islands. On my way to the Philippines, I’ll make another quick stopover in Kuala Lumpur. After partying in Boracay for my birthday, I’ll take a trip to South Korea and Japan before I fly back home.

Who are you going with?
Nobody. Zip. Nada! No one. I’m going solo!

Aren’t you scared?
Sure! There are lots of things about this trip that I’m afraid of and that make me nervous, but that is not going to stop me. My first solo trip was to Las Vegas two years ago, then Chicago, then Portland and Seattle. With each solo trip, I became more and more confident about my ability to navigate through unfamiliar terrain. Plus, as a solo traveller, you’re never really alone. There will be tons of new faces and friends along the way. As an added bonus, I’ve already got plans to meet up with friends from home all throughout the trip!

How long will you be gone?
I don’t exactly know the answer but I’m planning for about 4-5 months.

What are you going to do when you get back?
A lot can happen in 4 months! The plan is to hopefully have enough money to put down roots and start working again as a nurse. I might fall completely in love with a country and decide to stay. Maybe I’ll teach English overseas in Thailand. Who knows? Part of the fun is not knowing along the way.
