Day 93 – Boracay, Philippines

EC reunion! Maria picked me up from my hotel this morning and we went to the airport. We met up with Katherine and Rennee and started our travel to Boracay! Our flight was delayed a few minutes but it was short, only 45 minutes of flight time, and we landed safely in Caticlan. Maria arranged all our travel details for us so as soon as we arrived at the airport, we had a van waiting for us to take us to the port. We were in a separate waiting area with the other resorts and 5-star hotels, got our Discovery Shores bracelets and soon boarded a small speedboat. The boat took only five minutes to jet across the water and they gave us water and a free cookie onboard. Once we finally arrived to the island of Boracay, we had another van waiting for us and drove another twenty minutes to Discovery Shores Resort.

As soon as we stepped out, we were immediatly greeted by the staff and offered a cool towel. We headed straight to the restaurant inside the resort for lunch. We shared adobo and sisig fried rice, pancit bihon, and bistec. The food was amazing. The restaurant overlooks the white sand beach of Boracay and the weather was not too hot or humid. After lunch, we had a walk on the beach for a bit. We found a sailboat that took us out for “sunset” and then returned to the beach and continued walking.

For dinner, we were offered a free buffet from a nearby hotel but ended up declining because it required a 90-minute presentation. Ain’t nobody got time. Instead, we walked back down the beach to Gerry’s Grill and shared a variety of grilled dishes, threw back some San Miguel Light beers, and finished with halo-halo for dessert. We walked back to our resort with full stomachs, had a quick dip in the pool, then finally returned to our room to retire. Our first day in Boracay has been an epic start to our 3-day vacation. I’m so thankful to have travel buddies again, and it’s so nice to see familiar faces from back home!
