Second day in Taupo. It was mostly a rest day. Whether I planned it or not, I definitely needed it. I stayed up last night looking at my accommodation options for Queenstown and before I knew it, it was 10pm. I got up this morning and headed into town for breakfast and took a short walk along Lake Taupo.
The infamous Tongariro Crossing trek was cancelled d/t poor weather conditions, so I spent another day exploring the town. It started to sprinkle a little bit, so I turned around and headed towards the hostel. I stopped inside the local Pak n Save to buy some groceries before going back to the Haka Lodge, where I’m staying overnight with two friends from the Kiwi bus. I decided to treat myself with a pack of bacon, knowing I needed to finish the entire pack before we leave Taupo tomorrow morning because we don’t have a refrigerator for our perishable items.
When I got back to the hostel, I started to watch the beginning of The Hobbit and fell asleep in the middle of the afternoon for a few hours. I spent the rest of the evening at the hostel, cooked the rest of my bacon, and packed my bags for tomorrow’s departure.
